Details

Hoya macgillivrayi is probably one of the most sought after hoyas because of the size of its flowers and their fragrance. It is native to Australia in Queensland in the McIIraith and Iron mountain ranges and the rainforests of the central Cape York Peninsula. The flowers are are borne in umbels of 5 to 15 individual, bell shaped flowers that are 2 1/2 to 3 inches and are strongly fragrant at night. It is a vigorous grower and with time will have up to six + foot long vines that can be controlled by carefully trellising! It does best with bright indoor light, 2000+ foot candles for it to bloom, 50F to 90F, 50% to 80% humidity. It wants to dry out between waterings when in active growth, spring through fall and needs a winter rest when dormant in winter, light watering twice a month. More hoyas are killed by over watering than by under watering!!!!!!!!!!!! Hoya macgillivrayi is a magnificent addition to any hoya collection.

Our hoyas are well rooted plants with a minimum of 4-5 leaves in 2 1/4 inch pots. They are well established and usually are at least 4-6 months old with at least 1 active, new lead! We start all our cuttings using Oasis Horticubes and when we pot them up we put a large styrofoam shipping chip in the bottom of their pot to ensure good drainage. When re potting your hoya you may discard the the styrofoam but do not remove the Horticube from the root mass as you will damage the Hoya root system. The Horticube will eventually biodegrade.

The pictures of the three 2 1/4 pots are a typical representation of the plant you will receive! They occasionally may have sun spots or other imperfections such as leaves with blemishes, creases and latex bleeding from shipping/ packing which are cosmetic only and do not affect the health or vigor of the plant.

Hoyas like to be pot bound so PLEASE DO NOT IMMEDIATELY RE-POT your hoya but let it acclimate to your growing conditions for at least 8 weeks! We ship our hoyas in their pots and purposely on the dry side to reduce shipping cost and to reduce chance of contamination if shipped too damp.
